What age would this be appropriate for? I’m wondering if it would be okay for teenagers, as it is specified as an adult fantasy

Lily I’m finishing this and I’m thirteen. I read gruesome books though so I am used to it. More sensitive readers should wait probably till eighteen or older.
Kelly B My 17 year olds read it with no problems. I can't imagine an adult (as in, over the age of 18) not being able to handle this;-). Much of the book I felt could have been YA.
alex teens will love it!!!
at age 13 i loved it :3
still waiting on the sequel!
(most teen girls will fall in love with darlington just like i did -,v,-
James It depends on your maturity level and what genres you typically read. I love high fantasy like Tolkien but don't really like dark fantasy such as this book. It is very dark and if it weren't for the recommendation of a friend I probably would have quit this book as it isn't really the kind of thing I read. IF you aren't used to super dark themes including rape and assault I would leave this one on the self. It is handled in a mature way, but I still ended up skipping and skimming several scenes.
Laura A reader mature enough to tackle this is mature enough to handle the dark themes in it. Kids are exposed to everything now; you can't protect them from the world. Better to have open discussions about how the world works, and prepare them.
Holly Not everyone -- adult or otherwise -- has the "stomach" for such a gory, dark-fantasy story.
Shamus Ewer 21 and above, maybe even 25 and above
Diya Qaim Probably not for younger teens, maybe more 19 and above.
