I loved the Wessex of Christopher Priest's A Dream of Wessex. I'd watch the surfers surf the tidal bore at Blandford Forum, then wander down to spend the evening at the harbour front in Dorchester.
The world of Kim Stanley Robinson's of Blue Mars would be pretty incredible. I'd take the train to Sheffield, a journey which would literally take us from a living, breathing landscape, into near-airless space - and bring us to the base of an elevator cable stretching up tens of thousands of miles.
