Jonny Nexus I loved the Wessex of Christopher Priest's A Dream of Wessex. I'd watch the surfers surf the tidal bore at Blandford Forum, then wander down to spend the evening at the harbour front in Dorchester.

The world of Kim Stanley Robinson's of Blue Mars would be pretty incredible. I'd take the train to Sheffield, a journey which would literally take us from a living, breathing landscape, into near-airless space - and bring us to the base of an elevator cable stretching up tens of thousands of miles.
Jonny Nexus I'm currently re-reading Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars trilogy (Red Mars, Green Mars, and Blue Mars). They're in that sub-genre of science-fiction that's almost future history, and as someone who loves both SF and history, that's a winning combination for me. So far I've done Red and Green, and have just started on Blue.

In and around that, I read the Calculating Stars by Mary Robinette Kowal. I thought that was a pretty good read, and pre-ordered the sequel (which I think is out later this month).
Jonny Nexus With difficulty. A change of location (cafe or pub) and a latte is generally how I bootstrap myself into writing mode.
Jonny Nexus I'm not sure I've reached the point in my career where I could presume to give such advice. Any attempt to do so would probably read like a bad version of that song about the speech to graduating students where the only thing he'll commit to is to use sunscreen, except that for me, I'd substitute Scrivener for sunscreen.

Do what seems right to you and follow your instincts, but check out Scrivener. It's an awesome word processor for writing.
Jonny Nexus My next novel to come out, If Pigs Could Fly, is an offbeat urban fantasy. So I'm spending a lot of time working on the marketing and launch for that. The novel after that, which I'm on the first draft of, is a sort of fantasy novel with a twist.
Jonny Nexus To be honest, I don't think I've ever really had writer's block as such. But I do often get stuck at a particular point in a story where I can't figure out how to advance it. Sometimes, I just leave it for a few days, something which I can do because writing for me is a side-line I fit around my day job and I'm not on a stiff time-table. Occasionally, I'll jump forward in a story, leaving a gap which I'll fit in later.
Jonny Nexus I'm a dreamer. I frequently walk around day-dreaming, lost in thought. To take those day-dreams and give them tangible form, a form that other people can delight in, is wonderful.
Jonny Nexus It's an idea I've had for a long time, so to be honest this is a bit of a "tears in the rain" job. I think the initial germ of the idea was sparked by a conversation with someone who was a social worker working with older people. Back then, it was an idea for a comic or graphic novel. Then later, I was trying to think of an urban fantasy idea, and I remembered the old comic idea I'd had.
