Goodreads asked Charles E. Rouse:

How do you get inspired to write?

Charles E. Rouse It's subjective. I think you write when you have a story to tell, the more specific, the better. If you have the story, then you just need to get a general idea of the structure in a very broad way and start. If it works it works. If it doesn't, set it aside and go on to something else. Save the work, you may get an idea on it later.
