Hi Angie! I absolutely loved reading "Miracle Creek" it kept me engaged the whole way through. How did your experience as a lawyer help you write the trial part of the novel and make both cases (for and against) so believable? Did you seek help from other lawyers or were the cases the two lawyers presented something you would prepare for an actual case? I hope that makes sense. Thanks!

Angie Kim Hi Michelle. Thank you so much. I'm so happy that you loved Miracle Creek. As an initial matter, I wrote a fun essay about how I wrote courtroom scenes for Miracle Creek for LitHub/CrimeReads, which is here: https://crimereads.com/how-not-to-wri...

As a trial lawyer, you prepare for trials by not only preparing the questions (and anticipated answers) that you yourself would ask, but also by trying to anticipate the questions that the opposing counsel would ask. So I wrote the courtroom scenes by preparing for those witnesses as I might as a lawyer. Luckily, my husband is an excellent litigator with a lot of courtroom experience, so I tended to consult him by giving him the courtroom scenes after I wrote them and got his feedback, which was really helpful.

Thank you again for reading and for reaching out!
