Jackie L As I understand it, the chair is built and functioning the way Helena intended; to help conserve memories. It was Slade who saw the possibility of using it to go back in time to the actual memory. He wasn't sure it would even work when he first attempted it, but once he learned that it did work, he set out to refine and perfect it. Because Barry killed Slade, there would have been no corrupting force and over time, Barry could explain everything he and Helena experienced and convince her to destroy the chair. It wouldn't have been difficult as Helena was always concerned about the ethical and moral implications of her work.
