I really paid attention to the way you phrased your questions. I try and use that technique with friends and students and my own children. One of the most pivotal parts of the book was when you asked “Who’s Gabe?” How did you know that wasn’t just a simple mistake but something so significant?
Lori Gottlieb
Hi Carole, This really is a pivotal moment, but I didn't know that when I asked the question. I just sensed, from John's body language, that Gabe was someone important in his life and that it wasn't a casual slip. I figured maybe it was his father's name, or Gabe was a sibling, or maybe a childhood friend. With John, I was always looking for important people in his life, because he so desperately needed real connection. But I had no sense of what was to come when I asked that.

Hi lori!!! The book I am currently reading of yours is stick figure. I have anorexia and there is so much understanding I get from your book. What made you decide to write it? What was your goal? P.s: I haven't finished it yet as I have difficulty concentrating but I really love it.

Absolutely loved your book! One of the best I have ever read. In the beginning I was not comfortable with going to therapy but decided that I needed to and it has helped a lot. The hard part is saying what I feel out loud to her because I struggle with understanding my own feelings and do not know how to describe them. I usually just sit there unsure what to say. Does this get easier? Is there a way to overcome this?

Hello Dr. Gottlieb, 'Maybe You Should Talk To Someone' is an amazing amazing book! Thought-provoking and a book for everyone. Every patient in your book has had a positive response which is beyond amazing. However, I would like to know at what point you would decide that you cannot help someone anymore. Would you have an internal conflict between your perseverance and the reality that you cannot help them?
