Well yes of course, but Dan Brown is a very low bar to exceed.

Dan Brown came out with his first books at a time when such books were rather rare. He really defined a new subgenre in thrillers back in the day. Of course, now there are authors who came along with more polished works. Dan Brown's novelty is long gone, while authors like Blake Crouch are newcomers with fresh ideas for our own times. I do enjoy Blake Crouch's work, but I have to admit that back in the day when Dan Brown became big with his Da Vinci Code, I loved that book as well for its unusual idea.

Paraphrasing a little on something written by another author: Am I the only one who thinks a good read is a more inspiring experience than ironing your underwear, flossing your dog or watching daytime TV.

Dan who…? Blake Crouch is quickly becoming my favorite author. I left this one not being sure what was in fact science fiction or science fact.

That's not saying much. Brown is terrible and this guy's only bad.
Scooter McDermitt
Nope, you are not alone.

I think I may be in the minority here, but I actually felt really "meh" about Recursion. I also had no idea that Dan Brown has somehow become so disliked! I always really enjoyed his books, and it was nothing for me to plow through them in a day. By contrast, I don't think Blake Crouch's writing is nearly as immersive, or his storytelling as good. At most, I felt confused and eventually gave up because I couldn't keep track of the timelines...also I just got bored with the premise. :(

Comparing this Author with Dan Brown is not making me want to read him...

I prefer Blake Crouch over Dan Brown. But I still prefer Michael Crichton over Crouch, because he got the nuances of making characters whom you could respect and root for.
Janie
wow, what an imagination; Recursion is an amazing concept. Dan Brown is tre's ordinaire, by comparison.

Are you talking writing quality or story quality? Well either way, Yes from me.
Not part of my Yes, though a huge bonus for me too, is that Blake Crouch writes more my interests/genres, which is always a bit of extra yay.

does anyone think Dan Brown is better than Blake Croush? rather, does anyone think Dan Brown is even good?
Rodopa
Dan Brown is a MUCH better word-smith/writer.
Mike
Not in a million years. :-)

No one thinks Dan Brown is a better writer than Blake Crouch. Absolutely no one.

I just finished Recursion and am now on Black Matter. I'm hooked!!!

They have different styles of writing the story. I have read most of Dan Brown books. But it's the first one I read Blake Crouch's Recursions and I liked it so much.
Colleen Winter
Agreed. Crouch writes some of the tightest most compelling thrillers out there, and the concepts behind them are mind blowing. I'm still not sure how he manages to write them so that we understand what's going on. One of my favourite authors.
Ray
Nope! I feel that way too.
Wael Mekky
Yes indeed, I agree with you.
Brent
I was tired of Dan Brown after the second book in the series. He is too obsessed with other countries. Blake is obsessed with telling incredible stories that are beyond all imagination!
