'Recursion' adds complexity by using 'time' as an additional dimension, so having read the first one, which is only using parallel universes, might be an easier starter.
Reading it after the second one would have - kind of - left me underwhelmed.
If you are planning to read both of them: Follow the time line.
If not: Enjoy 'Recursion'(less)
