No, but since there are 11 days left until Recursion releases, and Dark Matter is an AWESOME book, you might as well...
Sue
No you don't, as they are stand-alones, but why wouldn't you? Dark Matter is utterly fabulous. You will not be disappointed.
By the way, Recursion is amazing too!

You don't have to, but for me I think it's good that I've read 'Dark Matter' first. Both stories are about parallel universes/realities. 'Recursion' adds complexity by using 'time' as an additional dimension, so having read the first one, which is only using parallel universes, might be an easier starter.
Reading it after the second one would have - kind of - left me underwhelmed.
If you are planning to read both of them: Follow the time line.
If not: Enjoy 'Recursion'

Trish is right!

They are not at all connected. I enjoyed them both; I loved Recursion.

They're independent books but in my opinion you should read both of them! They're amazing

I agree- both great books, read them both! But I like Quiss42's suggestion to read Dark Matter first, since the physics principles involved get even more complex in Recursion. So I' m glad I read Dark Matter first - it's also my favorite.

They have similar themes, and honestly seem like "twin" books. I read both and they're page turners, and really touch on common themes of existentialism, time/space, etc. Both offer great stories with interesting and tortured characters. I'd say in either order, read both eventually.
