Love asked:

Do you have to read the original Frankenstein book in order to get a good and understanding read of this book?

Julie Suzanne No, but it REALLY helps. A lot of details will fly over your head if you hadn't read it, and if you don't plan on reading Frankenstein, I recommend a chapter by chapter summary such as is provided by Spark Notes. Where the story diverges is important to catch.
Jill Henson Not at all! It is its own story and a great read!
