Goodreads asked Howard Scarrow:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Howard Scarrow It started as a writing exercise, just to keep the fingers nimble. The title, which informed the premise, came from my whiteboard, where I had listed "Black Moon" by ELP as a song I wished to cover on my first album (which never got made).

The premise, inspired by the title, largely came from my want to stop working midnight shifts at an automotive factory. I felt my life was ruled by darkness, and I wanted to see the day again.
