Sara St. Kelley

Katie McGarry:
Hey Katie! I ask this as lovingly as possible, because I've enjoyed all your books, but have you ever considered writing something that's NOT specifically about troubled teenagers in Kentucky? ;)
Katie McGarry
Hi Sara,
Short answer, yes. :-)
Long answer:
I'm extremely proud of all the books I've written and I love them all very much. Each book contains a piece of me. Some have bigger parts of me than others. Each books has allowed me to let go of emotions that I've carried with me for a long time. My books have brought me peace, and from interactions with readers over the years, I know my books have helped many others work through their own emotions and experiences.
Do I think of doing something different? Yes. Will I? Maybe. Recently, my life has been turned upside down. I write non-blood families. I do this for a reason. I recently lost a man who was a like a brother to me since childhood. Three days later, someone very, very close to me, an absolute pillar in my life, fell tragically ill and I've been by their side in the hospital with them for over a month.
Life has changed. I'd be naive to think that hasn't changed me and will most possibly change how and what I write. Will I continue to write teen stories that tackle difficult subjects? More than likely yes. Am I ready to tackle something new? Yes to that, too.
Thank you for the question and thank you for supporting me and my books. I've been given such an incredible gift that I've been able to do something I love, write stories, and have people who read my stories and support me. I'm extremely honored and grateful for this gift, and I thank you for being one of those people who has read my books.
Thank you again,
Katie
