This really annoyed me! She kept bringing it up and I was waiting for there to be an answer. It's a big loose end.

Based on the fact that Benjamin was also looking for the Book of Life (later named Ashmole 782) since Jerusalem (where he also impregnated a witch who did deliver a baby that Phillipe almost was able to save), I think he was looking for it after also finding out that Matthew, his sire, was looking. So Benjamin had to be in contact with someone who was also as long living as himself who kept a close watch on the De Clermont family. So Gilbert would be the logical suspect, which the family at the very end of the book just adds that to the list of reasons to keep him under their thumb. He had known habits of consorting with all kinds of creatures but was the biggest bigot on the Congregation to hide his transgressions. He knew quite a few witches through the ages and kept close touch with all the alchemists, Dee, Kelley, and others, whom he introduced to Benjamin.

I want to know this as well. I thought it may have been the scare that Satu had placed on Diana's skin or something. But there is no mention of who was passing the information from Sept-Tour to the council. The council knew about the birth before anyone could announce it. This is a big lose end in the book.
