Hello L.E :) I have read all your Fantasy books starting with the magic of recluse. I love all the characters"the are like family to me".Having said that I just can't seem to get into your Sci-fi. Maybe I just don't like Sci-fi; but it is hard for me to develop a bond with the world and characters like I can in your fantasy novels. Have you ever thought of writing a sf with the style you use for your fantasy novels?
L.E. Modesitt Jr.
In most of my science fiction books, the actual writing style, that is, the way in which I construct sentences and reflect the character's thoughts, that I use isn't that much different from what I use in writing fantasy. In a few, such as SOLAR EXPRESS, I've emphasized the technology a bit more because that book was written specifically with a near-future technology emphasis. On the other hand, THE ONE-EYED MAN, which is set in the far future, could almost be a fantasy novel, except for the fact that it does begin with a divorce.
My next SF novel [QUANTUM SHADOWS], however, is really more of a science fantasy because it definitely has more fantasy elements in it. While it's set in the far, far, future, it features the interplay of mythic cultures with religion, power, and a raven... with the future of the human race at at stake. From your question, I suspect you might like the character of Corvyn a bit more than some of my other SF protagonists, but that's just a guess on my part.
I just [last week] turned in the final version of QUANTUM SHADOWS to my editor at Tor, and it hasn't been scheduled for release, except it will likely be published in the first half of 2020, although that's very tentative at this time.

I have almost all of your books, loved every one of them. I have two questions: One, will there be any books talking about life of Emperor Lorn, after he becomes Emperor? And I loved all the hinting about the emperor before him, that he was supposed to be an example of a former magus/lancer that became emperor, I would love to hear more about him. Thank you.

I have been reading your novels for many years...one thing I have observed is that you do a splendid job of building to the climax of the story and then within 5 pages the Book is over. Is this done consciously or is just a function of your writing style? Which ever is fine by me, I've just always been curious.
