Go for it, take a chance. Start small if you think a large novel is daunting, there is a big market for short stories for anthologies. Or jump in the deep end and commit to writing that novel. Your first draft is going to be garbage, but that is why it is called your first draft. That is the bones of the story, going back and reading through your work is the time cull your writing and polish it up.
