A Goodreads user asked this question about Fear: Trump in the White House:
Another book about tRump! I already know about tRump and don't need to read another book. If he's still around when I find the book in a library or on the dollar shelf at a used bookstore, I may read it. All most of us can do is not vote for him or any person who would support him. Am I missing something? Is it urgent?

If that is true (that you can't do any more than vote), then you might try reading more books (not just one, but many). The more you read, the more you know; and the more you know, the more you might have that one critical fact at the right time which could change another mind. (Believe it or not, there are many millions of people who are so disengaged from reality that they don't even bother to vote. The hard-core Trumpers may be nearly beyond the reach of reason, but many of the apathetics may not have given it much thought.) Unless you live as a hermit, you are part of the giant jostling jumble of ideas and arguments along with everyone else. Trump wasn't inflicted on us by accident. Millions of people had to be indoctrinated into a certain mindset to vote for him. That was the result of all the conversations they've had and all the media they've absorbed during their entire lives, which primed them to be receptive to Trump's unique brand of bluster, schoolyard insults, resentment, science denial, constant lies, bullying, abuse of women, xenophobia, etc. There is a counter-narrative that most of them seem to have little inkling of - the counter-narrative of facts. For example, according to surveys about half of Americans literally believe in Noah's Ark - guess which way they tend to vote. This country is in dire need of large-scale remedial education. Book reading, and getting other people to read books, is our primary weapon against the thick cloud of ignorance choking America.(less)
