Another book about tRump! I already know about tRump and don't need to read another book. If he's still around when I find the book in a library or on the dollar shelf at a used bookstore, I may read it. All most of us can do is not vote for him or any person who would support him. Am I missing something? Is it urgent?

It is quite evident you have never read a Bob Woodward book. Woodward is the master when it comes to writing about the goings on in the White House. He began as an investigative journalist and has written 18 books about American politics. You might want to check out Woodward's credentials before writing this book off.

Bob Woodward's books are based on the facts and is the main reason I put my money down. He is an old guard Investigative journalist.

I've just started, but what I've read is just a factual account of how people fell into their positions in his campaign, how the GOP got on board, their plans to win over a larger percentage of Republicans, and their plans to beat Hillary. It's well written and easy to follow. I also like that there are color photos in the middle section of the people associated. It's a historical account.

No. Not urgent. I started it and it doesn't tell much more about his character than I already knew. Very depressing. I decided not to finish and am trying to find something to cleanse my brain.

Closed minds will not read things they do not want to know, either true or false. Woodward is known for his forthright accounts of history. Those of us who are tired of biased Pundits and want to hear a true accounting, will read this book.

I agree with Deb M. Woodward has written numerous investigative books about various political figures, both Democrat and Republican spanning decades and have always been factual.

Thank you for your honest opinion. I started reading it and I actually appreciate Woodward's writing style. It's very easy to read and follow. This is my first Woodard book and I plan on reading more once I am done with this installment.
I agree with some of your thesis. I finished David Frum's "Trumpocracy" and I read the majority of "Fire and Fury". And the pattern themes are almost identical. All three books give a pretty informative account of the disaster that we currently have in the White House. Now oh course, I have read a breadth of articles from those who support Trump so I can keep my mind as clear as possible of my liberal bias. But, the evidence and observations are pretty solid.
Yes, the best way to address a President we do not like is to vote against him, and the Congressional candidates whom support him in mid-term elections.

I believe and respect Bob Woodward. This book is worth reading if you are interested in the inner workings of the presidency.

A lot more credible than Omarosa's book or Wolff I would say, regardless of their factual merit they can easily be criticised for their intentions and methods.
Omarosa is an opportunist and attention seeker whilst Wolff used pretty disingenuous methods to gain access and report, essentially eavesdropping.

Despite your feelings I believe it's still a timely book given the day to day happenings in the White House. It proves on several levels that the Wolfe book was not a 'hit piece'. As someone else mentioned Woodward is a seasoned investigative reporter and provides pages and pages of source material as well as a detailed index to support the book's premise. He lets all the facts and dialogue speak for themselves.

Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein were the two journalists who uncovered the Watergate scandal. So yes...if you don't read his books you are missing something. There are a lot of hit pieces out there. This is not one of them.

Disagree with Dickenson's comment.
The subject matter of the book is very consistent with the title. In the first 40 pages, I have read, there are nuggets that haven't been either told before or covered at length.
I am disappointed that Woodward was unsuccessful getting the traditional one-on-one interviews with the sitting POTUS for this book.

"All most of us can do is not vote for him or any person who would support him." If that is true (that you can't do any more than vote), then you might try reading more books (not just one, but many). The more you read, the more you know; and the more you know, the more you might have that one critical fact at the right time which could change another mind. (Believe it or not, there are many millions of people who are so disengaged from reality that they don't even bother to vote. The hard-core Trumpers may be nearly beyond the reach of reason, but many of the apathetics may not have given it much thought.) Unless you live as a hermit, you are part of the giant jostling jumble of ideas and arguments along with everyone else. Trump wasn't inflicted on us by accident. Millions of people had to be indoctrinated into a certain mindset to vote for him. That was the result of all the conversations they've had and all the media they've absorbed during their entire lives, which primed them to be receptive to Trump's unique brand of bluster, schoolyard insults, resentment, science denial, constant lies, bullying, abuse of women, xenophobia, etc. There is a counter-narrative that most of them seem to have little inkling of - the counter-narrative of facts. For example, according to surveys about half of Americans literally believe in Noah's Ark - guess which way they tend to vote. This country is in dire need of large-scale remedial education. Book reading, and getting other people to read books, is our primary weapon against the thick cloud of ignorance choking America.

You ARE missing something.

I would say that if you can only stand to read a handful of Trump books (or even only one) I would recommend the Michael Wolfe Fire and Fury over this one. The Michael Wolfe book was a fun and fast read and really highlighted how crazy and out of control the Trump years were. This book is too disjointed and wooden. Even worse, Woodward wrote two books about Trump -- Rage and Fear. Fear reads like the stuff that got left out Rage for whatever reason. I'd skip it if you can only take so much.

No, not urgent, but this book is where future historians will look. For many of us, that's an interesting perspective to check out.
Linda Langlois
I read things in Rage that I never saw on the news. It was interviewing Trump and writing down what he said. Bob Woodward is an investigative reporter who first came to my attention during the administration of Nixon and the Nixon Tapes. He had a lot to do with bringing the public's attention to what was going on.
