Kim asked Amor Towles:

I am reading Rules of Civility and listening to the Audible version while I read, and I noticed an edit in the Audible version. On page 73 (Ch. 5), "Look at this, she groaned. Charlotte Bronte. Emily Bronte. Jane Austen......all die spinsters?" Audible version: the names are changed to Virginia Woolf, Edith Wharton, and Emily Bronte, and spinsters changed to "kill themselves." I'm curious why the change?

Amor Towles The written version reflects the final draft submitted for publication. The Audible was recorded from a penultimate draft.
