asked:
Do we ever get a reason for why she calls the children "boy" and "girl" ? I'm about 11 chapters in and it is driving me crazy. Like, wtf don't they have names?

Based on having only having seen the movie, my thinking was that yes, of course she loved them and wanted to name them, but as was previously mentioned, she knew that she could lose them at any point, and I guess she felt like naming them would be that last bit of connection to them that she didn't think she could handle, knowing they could be gone in seconds. Basically, she felt she needed that emotional distance to maintain what was left of her sanity and stay focused on survival.

I think because the names of the children would give away some of the plot. You find out the names at the end, and they're fitting.

That would be a spoil for the later part of the book. Don't worry, you'll know later on.

Its no explicitly stated but the ending eludes to the reason why she didn't name them.

No, It's never explained.
we do find out their names, but the reason she calls them 'boy' and 'girl', is just a plot contrivance that is never given an explanation.
