Shmulick asked Peter Koevari:

Hi I am a teacher and My question is about what I call "things you think of"... I found The quote: “I can only show you the doors, you must choose one to...” and refereed to it as yours, but some of my students told me its a variation of an ancient Chinese idiom (-: So how can an author know is a phrase he thinks of is his creation or something he absorbed and recalled from his mind? thanks Shmulick

Peter Koevari Thanks for the interesting question. I believe we are a product of our environment, learning, experiences, and upbringing. An idea may be inspired, and perhaps many ideas are inspired over generations.

That particular quote was not "lifted" from anywhere, but there are many version of that metaphor in the world. This particular way I wrote it in my books, is mine.

I've indeed spent many years in and around Chinese culture, so perhaps what I learned there, inspired me.

Hope that helps, and I hope you enjoyed reading my work.
