Most synopses I've read make a point to state "a group of scientists, <i>all women</i>...", explicitly highlighting gender. Because I didn't find the characters' gender to play a role in their motivations or the overall story, I wonder why this fact is repeatedly emphasized other than because it's a bit anomalous for the genre. Did gender color anyone's reading or interpretation?
