If you don't want the audio just try doing what a good reader would do: entertain himself/herself by asking questions, trying to solve mysteries, trying to foreshadow, etc.

Reading to People: Either get the audio or read with character. Just try remembering elementary school and how your teachers read to you. They would sometimes make contact with the audience and look back at the book while reading with different voices and different facial expressions.(less)
