They are standard "English" format, meaning you will read them from left to right. If you are needing access to the books, I highly suggest contacting your local library. If the library doesn't have a copy in their collection, most libraries have some form of "Inter-Library Loan" where you could request the book from another library, but use your library to check it out.

By Yourself: I would get the audio and read along with it. The audio has music and different voices acting for the characters helping you imagine. If you don't want the audio just try doing what a good reader would do: entertain himself/herself by asking questions, trying to solve mysteries, trying to foreshadow, etc.
Reading to People: Either get the audio or read with character. Just try remembering elementary school and how your teachers read to you. They would sometimes make contact with the audience and look back at the book while reading with different voices and different facial expressions.
