Lois, I am a fan of The Giver, I was a media specialist for the last 17 years of my 40 year teaching career and my question is this: Do you feel that many of the ideas from your book have been used in the latest books for YA readers, such as, Stefanie Collins, the Hunger Games? I recognize many similarities, does that offend you or are you honored by their works?

I work at the Association of Junior Leagues and we are curious to know! 2) What inspired you to write The Giver? Your novel was an introduction to dystopian fiction and 15 years later I still love this genre and have fond memories of The Giver. Thank you!

Hello, I was reading The Giver with my students, but they had a difficult time grasping and understanding the text. Students asked me if I could show them a movie that shared the story of The Giver. I was wondering if you ever considered having your book be adapted into a movie? Also, how would you illustrate the events that occur in the text for a student with a learning disability?
