Lois Lowry:
I love your books and I am always amazed at how you manage to weave together plot, characters, and themes. The story is always memorable and told beautifully. What advice would you give to other writers, especially young, unpublished ones, who want to write but are constantly told how hard the industry is, how you can't make money off the arts, etc?

Many professions...like writing...are very competitive and make it hard for young people to enter. I'd view it as an exciting challenge!

Considering that Jonas has his friends and all, how would the society work with cliques and such? After all, if he has his group, wouldn't there naturally be other, more lonely people? Would that challenge the Sameness and order of society, or - craziest option - psychologically channeled into working groups, brainwashing people who wouldn't really be friends?

I am fourteen and i love writing. I need a topic before i start writing then i usually stop a few pages in i lose momentum and thought. In the giver you had a very thought out book. I really enjoyed reading it this year how did you keep your ideas flowing to create the Giver? What inspired that book?

With the recent technological advances oh the last two decades, do you find yourself inspired to write any new futuristic plots? I have been waiting for one of the world's great modern classic writers to take hold of a unique perspective regarding artificial intelligence and the state of our future.
