The author doesn't explain everything in the beginning, but that matches the character. She's lived in this world all her life and doesn't explain things she takes for granted, and there's much about the world she doesn't yet know, so you get to discover details along with her and see what she finds important. This is a great read and a great example of good world building.(less)
