Madyson Loya
Madyson Loya asked Colleen Houck:

Hello, Colleen. When creating a story, particularly a new one, how do you prepare for it? The characters? The story plot? The research? Do you perhaps use an outline format? What do you find helpful when preparing yourself for a new project?

Colleen Houck Whew. It's hard to say. I'm not as much of a plotter as I should be. I read a lot and jot down a lot of notes and then I just go and figure it out as I go along. That style would drive a lot of authors crazy and might not work for you at all. You might want to take a class or two and see how other people do it and then figure out your own style. My agent tried to guide my last book and it caused more problems than it helped. Every person needs to find their own way to come up with stories.
