I agree that we need more evidence, saying that there is an all-knowing God that can snap his fingers and make shit come out of his nose is nonsense, but it's genuinely astonishing to me that almost 90% of people believe in this shit. I think there is some type of purpose and reason for things, but there's a limit you cross where you just become a retard. Also, what do you think of string theory and Brian Greene?

Manny Rayner I know what you mean when you say "there's a limit you cross where you just become a retard". But despite the complete lack of empirical support, some very smart people believe in string theory, and I think it would be premature to call them idiots. Maybe their intuitions will eventually turn out to be justified. If you look at the history of science, you'll find that stranger things have happened.

Still don't understand why modern science or the intellectual class doesn't criticize the mass market consumption of Harry Potter/ Divergent that are deeply Platonic with the classification of characters into various houses, while it continues to criticize Plato's Republic for classification based on dominance of appetite, courage & reason.
