Laurell K. Hamilton:
I'm an aspiring writer, but I'm dealing with two things: I get discouraged every single day because 96% of manuscripts are rejected, and I haven't had an idea for years, literally. There's too many people wanting to be writers, and knowing there's so much competition just kills me a little every day. When I get motivated, immediatly something appears about the industry that kills it. Any tips on how to deal with this?
Laurell K. Hamilton
Stop looking at the "industry" and just write your stories. Practice the craft of writing by allowing yourself to write badly, terrible ideas, trite things that you've read a dozen times, but somewhere in writing the crap out you will find your voice, your ideas, yourself as a writer, but you won't do that if you check what's selling and don't actually write. Publishing will survive, books will continue to be published, but if you don't actually write and improve your skills then none of it matters, because you won't be ready when your chance comes. Stop worrying about the state of publishing and write something. Good luck and I hope you find your muse.

Hi Laurell, not a question, but a comment that may amuse you. I'm in the middle of re-reading Anita's story, and I had one of my lucid dreams last night, and woke 'knowing' that: "Jean-Claude's eyes are sultan blue" and thought - "What the heck color is that?" Darned if I ever remember you using that description, but apparently it's Pantone color 288C Not as dark as the midnight you use, but still pretty...

Love your work, all of it. Just finished rereading all of Anita’s books. After my second reading of the series I realized that I wanted more Jean-Claude. He is always being left behind. Most of his page time is much shorter than the other main characters. Even during major “battles” we don’t ever see him do much I am hoping he gets much more page time in the future and gets to show how bad ass he can be?
