Goodreads asked James Todd Lewis:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

James Todd Lewis
There are a lot of skilled people out there, so many who can write very well, so many stories that have already been told, but not yours - not yet. Write your story, a little at the time, and don't worry about grammar or spelling or anything else as you do it - just get the words out of you and onto paper or into the computer or whatever medium suits you. Then, find editors, friends, others who will read what you write and help you hone it.

Beyond that, there is tons of advice and books and everything else out there on how to be a writer or how to avoid writers' pitfalls, but the only thing I'd tell you for sure is to do this because you love it - no other reason makes sense...
