What inspired you to become a writer? Was it, that you love to read and wanted to write as well or, you had an extraordinary imagination(which you do) and had to put your thoughts down on paper? Please I would love to know! I love your books especially the giver and I love your writing style.

Lois Lowry I have always, since childhood, loved the feeling of words..their sound, their cadence, the search for just the right one. To put them together to tell a story is enormous fun for me.

Race is briefly addressed as "sameness" in The Giver. I wonder how this sameness was achieved. I think the entire race was Caucasian, since Jonas makes a reference to red hair and light eyes. What happened to allow this to occur? Eugenics? Genocide?

I haven't read anywhere or have seen in the Imd credits that Lois Lowery has had anything to do with the movie version of The Giver. With the recent young adult books that have been made into movies, the author usually has somewhat of a role in the book's movie making decisions. Was this not the case in this movie adaptation?
