Hello Ms. Lowry! I would like to know if you meant for Gathering Blue to be set in any particular place? (I had a theory that Kira's village was located in after-the-Bad-Times London, mostly based on Matt's 'accent' and the use of the word 'tykes' for children.) Thank you!

Lois Lowry Yes, and part of the fourth book, SON, is set n what seems like a Medieval English village. But they are all in a made-up place, no real geographical location

I read the Anastasia Krupnik series in grade school. As I recall, the books were not what one expected from juvenile or YA literature at the time. They bore some coarse language, dealt with puberty and sex, and featured a fairly liberal family, but none of these things defined the books. I was wondering: did you ever receive any criticism for including such "mature" things so casually in children's books?
