C asked Lois Lowry:

After reading the Giver series and then seeing your most recent movie, I was wondering how you felt about the interpretation of the book. More specifically how you feel about the discrepancies between the book and the movie, for example the fact that in the movie Jonas did not have pale eyes? Will this affect the story lines in future book-to-movie adaptations? Thanks so much for a great series, Lois!

Lois Lowry It was simply too difficult for them to start dealing with contact lenses in a lot of characters, including babies. So we had to let the light eyes go.
I felt that on the whole they did a great job in preserving the intent of the book.
