Alex asked Lois Lowry:

I was thrilled to see that The Giver was on the recommended reading list for my daughter's school. I think that children should be given the opportunity to study and critique a broader range of genre fiction at school, rather than literary classics handed down from an examination board. Do you agree and do you sense that there is any movement in this direction?

Lois Lowry I do agree. But I am not in a position to sense what is happening. My own kids are out of school now and I tend to lead a fairly isolated life as a writer.
