I love reading all sorts of books--mystery, fantasy, historical fiction, contemporary, nonfiction. My tips for becoming a writer are to read a lot, write a lot, practice being a good observer, practice thinking about other people with compassion (because the best writers think about all their characters as well-rounded people with their own life influences), and to live a full life. Everything you do, and everything that happens to you, can be fodder for future stories.

I recently got Book Scavenger for my birthday and will start reading it as soon as I am done with all of my library books. I heard you live in Colorado. Where exactly in Colorado do you live? I may live close, and when the second book comes out, I might be able to make it to one of your tours. Also, what writing tips can you give me?
