Jennifer Chambliss Bertman Thank you! I'm so happy to know this. I would like to continue the Book Scavenger series, but there aren't any titles currently in the works. I do have a new book that will be published this fall titled SISTERHOOD OF SLEUTHS and then another one coming soon after titled ON THE BRIGHT SIDE. Hopefully you will like both as much as the Book Scavenger series!
Jennifer Chambliss Bertman Thank you! I'm so happy to hear this. There isn't a 4th Book Scavenger currently in the works, but I wouldn't say the series is finished either. Stay tuned . . . I do have a fourth book that will be published Fall 2022 titled SISTERHOOD OF SLEUTHS. It's a stand-alone novel, so not part of the Book Scavenger series, but I hope you and your sisters enjoy it too!
Jennifer Chambliss Bertman At this time, the website and game doesn't have the capability to offer usernames and accounts the way it does in the books. But maybe it will in the future!
Jennifer Chambliss Bertman Thank you so much! The inspiration for the game came from thinking about what a game that celebrates reading might be like--something that celebrates how FUN reading can be, and how interactive too. I love treasure hunts and scavenger hunts, I love puzzles, I love video games with levels and points where I'm competing with myself, and of course I love books, so Book Scavenger was a mash up of all these things that I love.
Jennifer Chambliss Bertman Hi there! I'm sorry for my delay in answering your question. Yes, I am working on a new book! I can't say much about it at this time other than it's a mystery with some humor and some heart. I hope Book Scavenger readers will like it! And while I'm not currently working on another book in the Book Scavenger series, I don't know if I'd say the series is over either. The best place to hear updates about my books (and other fun stuff, like book giveaways or puzzles or games) is my author newsletter. You can subscribe here: https://bookscavenger.us10.list-manag...
Jennifer Chambliss Bertman Hi Logan! At this time there aren't accounts on the Book Scavenger website. That's something I'm hoping to add in the future though.
Jennifer Chambliss Bertman Yes, I certainly hope so! In 2016 I did events with Politics and Prose in Washington DC and The Country Bookshop in North Carolina, and I hope to do more east coast visits in the future. I actually requested my publisher send me to the east coast on my last tour, but it didn't work out. Next time, hopefully!
Jennifer Chambliss Bertman Hi Sri, There aren't any set plans for a 4th Book Scavenger book. It could happen though, so stay tuned!
Jennifer Chambliss Bertman Hi Owen! There aren't any definite plans for a Book Scavenger #4, but there also aren't any definite plans to NOT write a #4. Meaning, it's possible!
Jennifer Chambliss Bertman I love reading all sorts of books--mystery, fantasy, historical fiction, contemporary, nonfiction. My tips for becoming a writer are to read a lot, write a lot, practice being a good observer, practice thinking about other people with compassion (because the best writers think about all their characters as well-rounded people with their own life influences), and to live a full life. Everything you do, and everything that happens to you, can be fodder for future stories.
Jennifer Chambliss Bertman I'm not trying to be coy when I say this, but the honest answer is: I don't know! I have ideas for more books I could write in the series, but there are no definite plans under way yet. I think if readers want there to be more books, there will likely be more. Right now I'm working on a mystery with entirely different characters that should be published in 2020.

Jennifer Chambliss Bertman I love Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore! I don't know Robin Sloan personally and didn't realize the connection between his last name and my character until you mentioned it--I probably read that book in the early days of writing The Unbreakable Code, so perhaps his name was in my subconscious? But your idea is a much more interesting answer!
Jennifer Chambliss Bertman Hi Zachary! I'm working on Book Scavenger #3 right now!
Jennifer Chambliss Bertman Yes! The Unbreakable Code will be published on April 25, 2017.
Jennifer Chambliss Bertman It boils down to reading as much as you can--and read diversely. Read books you're naturally drawn to and read ones you don't think are for you. If you love a book, ask yourself why. If you hate a book, do the same. And then, of course, if you want to be a writer you need to write. Take your writing seriously, but don't take yourself too seriously. And always, always, keep going!
Jennifer Chambliss Bertman This may surprise you, but I haven't always loved writing and even now I don't always love writing. What I love are stories. And I love reading. And I love the challenge of trying to take the stories in my head and getting them down on paper in a way that other people can understand and see what I'm imagining, and have the characters feel as real to others as they do to me. I don't remember who said it, but there is a quote along the lines of "I don't love writing, but I love having written." That's true for me. My process is slow and there's a lot of deleting and trying again--I'm not sitting at my computer shouting "Wheeeee!" while typing madly. Pecking my keyboard and frowning is probably more accurate. But I absolutely love the feeling of reading over something I've spent a lot of time on and thinking, "Hey, that's pretty good!"
