This may surprise you, but I haven't always loved writing and even now I don't always love writing. What I love are stories. And I love reading. And I love the challenge of trying to take the stories in my head and getting them down on paper in a way that other people can understand and see what I'm imagining, and have the characters feel as real to others as they do to me. I don't remember who said it, but there is a quote along the lines of "I don't love writing, but I love having written." That's true for me. My process is slow and there's a lot of deleting and trying again--I'm not sitting at my computer shouting "Wheeeee!" while typing madly. Pecking my keyboard and frowning is probably more accurate. But I absolutely love the feeling of reading over something I've spent a lot of time on and thinking, "Hey, that's pretty good!"
