Goodreads asked S.J. Higbee:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

S.J. Higbee Get that first draft written and resist the temptation to keep going back over the opening pages each time. If you see some errors or minor problems, unless they affect your narrative, make a note in the margin and keep going. Once you have a first draft written, you have something to work with. And the next piece of advice - be aware that writing the first draft is only half of the process. It is the rewrites and editing that turns your book into a finished product that is entertaining to read.
