Matthias' death in CK was absolutely heartbreaking, especially because he had just experienced such a huge awakening and his relationship with Nina was really just beginning. He death was definitely jolting. What was the symbolic importance of his death? Were you considering killing off other characters instead, or was it always going to be Matthias?

That boy who killed him represented Matthias' younger self that was ignorant and blind by his military's forced beliefs. So while I hated that it had to be just some random kid that was introduced only a few chapters earlier, I suppose it did make sense in some kind of way. Plus, it was realistic that after everything they endured, not everyone would make it out alive...(less)
