Hi I'm Rachael and I'm 13. I am HUGE fan of your books (I own all of them except for Silver in the Blood). You are a great writer! I wanted to know, how old is Creel throughout the Dragon Slippers book?

Jessica Day George Hm, good question! I . . . can't really remember! The funny thing about characters' ages is that if you keep saying how old someone is, and that number ends in -teen, then bookstores put it in the YA section, and some elementary schools can't have it on the shelves. But in the case of Dragon Slippers, because the book is really fun for readers who are 11-12 on up, we wanted to make sure that it didn't get pegged as being only for teens. So I didn't really talk about her age much, but I pictured her being around 16-17 at the start. Then she's in the city for months, right? Then in the next book it's been a year or so more . . . I picture her being 20 when they get married, which means that she isn't even a teen anymore!
