Natalie Arroyo
Natalie Arroyo asked Colleen Houck:

As much as I enjoyed reading your books, have you ever considered having your female protagonist being from a different background? Like Asian, Hispanic, African American, etc??

Colleen Houck Absolutely. When I first started writing I was really nervous to write about another culture. I wasn't sure I could do it and depended heavily on my editor from India. Keeping Kelsey not only from the US but from my own state made it really easy to get into her head. I got to explore the country along with her. With Lily I ventured out a bit further. She's not much like me. I am nowhere close to a NYC socialite. The more I write, the braver I get. I've now written Tiger's Promise in Yesubai's perspective, gotten into the head of a lioness with Tia, and a variety of Egyptian goddesses. I'm sure I still mess things up a lot but my readers are very gracious and kind. Thanks for the great question!
