Goodreads asked K.T. Bowes:

What mystery in your own life could be a plot for a book?

K.T. Bowes I was actually kidnapped from the centre of Lincoln City in England, aged 12. It was the first time my mother let me go to town with 2 of my friends without an adult. We caught the bus in and he took us from outside the market hall by pretending he was a policeman and saying we were in trouble. He said we'd been seen shoplifting. I knew we hadn't because we only just got off the bus. He used his assumed authority to move us quite a distance but I drew the line at getting in his car. It's where I learned the stark truth about fighting back. We think we'll defend ourselves but in reality, fear takes over and we don't. We freeze and then do what they say. My friends were like lambs to the slaughter. I hung back and was the first to get away. I've used that exact event and all the emotions surrounding it heaps of times in my novels. A different character and a different location, but always the same terror.
