Goodreads asked Lindsay McKenna:

What mystery in your own life could be a plot for a book?

Lindsay McKenna If I wrote an autobiography on my life, people would accuse me of writing fiction. It is so off-the-wall, that most people wouldn't believe it, thinking that I'd made it up because I am, after all, a fiction writer ;-). That said? My books I write (Delos Series, Wind River Valley Series, and 170 other books on my still growing backlist) come from my own experiences. The old adage "Write what you know," applies directly to me. I was in the US Navy and so I write about the military, is one good example. I was born in rural farm/ranch environment, so I write about that. I believe in writing "close to the bone," as they say because you can add small nuances of the 5 senses because I've actually experienced it myself. And I do love bringing my readers into my stories and that is how you do it. Because of my life, I bring an emotional depth and breadth to my characters because I've already "been there, done that," myself. You can find the 'mystery' of my life in my books ;-)
