Hi Scott, Is there a chance short story in Mount Char world that you mentioned on few occasions will see daylight any time soon? I've just finished Library and I'm in awe. And I need some fix. Sure, I can get your Linux book but I would prefer Mount Char based one ;) Best and thank you for crafting such a marvelous lecture.

Thanks Lukas,
The TL;DR is that I did in fact write a Mount Char short story, but it sucked. The few people who've read it are in complete agreement that it would be a terrible idea to publish it in any form. It's just not very good, it would be an insult to anybody who liked the book, et. cetera. Also, ouch.
Anyway, that one is probably not going to see the light of day.
I'm working on an unrelated book right now, but I've been thinking a lot about why the short story that I tried to write failed so abysmally.
I think the problem was that I was trying to continue Carolyn's story, and her arc was largely done. When I get done with this book, I'm goign to take another whack at it. This time, the approach I'm going to take is to try writing from the point of view of one of the librarians who didn't get much screen time. We'll see how that goes.
I'm sincerely sorry I don't have more for you. Thanks for asking, though!

Hi Scott! I'm a bookseller in a small mall and I have been doing everything to handsell your book - it's the most interesting, original book I've read in years. I know you have a prequel story coming, but stories about the Librarians would be appreciated! (More Peter, please - he takes after the cook buried in my own heart) What was your research like for this book?

You mention in the Qwillery interview that Erwin and Steve were Protagonists. I'm curious; Where your other characters fall? Either protag or antag. And I love the moral ambiguity of some of the characters. Carolyn and Father specifically. Father to me felt "evil" throughout the narrative and not by then end, and Carolyn who came across as good, until she didn't, but then redeemed herself
