I'm so bummed that The Library at Mount Char didn't make it through to the finals! I absolutely loved it and can't wait for your next book! Any hints on when we can expect the next one?

Thanks Vernice!
Honestly, I really was pretty happy just to make the semi-finals. I mean...who places as a write-in? That was cool, and completely unexpected.
As far as new stuff, as of today (11/20/2015) here's where I'm at. I've got a very rough draft of a new book. I'm working on it non-stop, and I'm planning to show it to my agent in January. That's good, but there's quite a bit that has to happen before it shows up in stores, assuming someone even buys it. If I had to guess, I'd say Christmas 2016, but keep in mind that my experience in the publication process is limited to one book.
In case you're wondering, the new book isn't related to Mount Char. It's in the vein of a noir detective story, along the lines of "Mike Hammer investigates a school shooting committed by Peter Pan."

Hi Mr. Hawkins, I really REALLY enjoyed the LIbrary at Mount Char. I'd never quite read a book like it. I was ready to give up halfway through but once the threads started coming together I was hooked. I was wondering who your influences were (I have a guess of one or two but I want to see if i'm right!) and what the inspiration behind the story was. Thank you! ? (I needed to include a question mark apparently)

Thank you, sir, for providing something so original and unique. Loved it all and I especially appreciated the refreshing details, e.g. not resurrecting characters like the cool President (a lot of -especially American- authors would, I believe). A question, if/when you find some time: Why did Carolyn feel she had to kill all the librarians? Those that posed a threat I understand, but Peter, for example? Others?

Some really excellent world-building in The Library at Mount Char. It felt like a mix of different mythologies converging together, sort of a re-alignment of all our theories and beliefs and legends. What gave you the idea for the library, and for the scale of its studies?
