Every book I've written has been inspired by either a real person or place. I've got endless ideas, but the inspiration to take them past that firsts vague idea usually comes when I can't stop thinking about it. Over time, the characters begin taking up space in my head as their story forms, and the only way to get on with my real life is to get that story written down. It's not so much an inspiration to write but a NEED to purge the story!

We have a book club and we are located in northern MN. I have chosen your book for our October discussion-- the choice was triggered by a review I saw on Face Book. No telling which way the discussion will go, though fictional most of our books have dealt with racism, mental illness, disability, war, poverty and tragedy.
