My fourth book, CLOSER TO HOME, was inspired by several themes. It takes place in 1977 (the year I graduated from high school!) I loved the '70s, and that era inspired me to have Vietnam Veterans in the story, an area rarely talked about until recently. Another theme in the story is living off the land, something many do in the area where I live. I'm so impressed with people who know about harvesting what nature provides. I'm clueless about it!

We have a book club and we are located in northern MN. I have chosen your book for our October discussion-- the choice was triggered by a review I saw on Face Book. No telling which way the discussion will go, though fictional most of our books have dealt with racism, mental illness, disability, war, poverty and tragedy.
