Lynn Mod
We mixed it up a little bit this month so we don't end up with the same kind of nominations / books each month (We will throw one of these in once in a while but will go back to our usual open nominations for other months).

July is the start of the Summer holidays for a lot of us, with many people getting on a plane and jetting off to some foreign land. So for this month, we asked for nominations in the genre of Travel.

To add another change into the mix, the results are also hidden until the end of the poll!
(with the exception of me who can still see the poll, bwahahahahaha)

Lynn Mod
Just to give everyone a heads up; I've been checking and while all the books are available to buy or borrow in some way, majority of them are not available in all formats. You might want to check your favourite format and see it's available before making your decision.

Lynn Mod
Heh, I've been waiting for your reaction Kristie!

message 17: by Sarah (new)

Sarah I really don't think it is fair to hide poll results. Becuase sometimes if I vote for a book lower on the list I would rather maybe change it to the top two lets say if I want to read a one more people are choosing but not another one other people are choosing. Why would you force me to use my vote toward a book that maybe no one else is voting for versus maybe another book I also want to read that more people seem to want and I have a better chance of using my vote more wisely???????? I hope you don't make this a common practice or at least let us vote on it. I personally like to see the results so I can change my vote or make a better informed decision.

Lynn wrote: "Heh, I've been waiting for your reaction Kristie!"

Hahaha Lynn - You're killing me! I can't check obsessively. I guess I'll just have to spend my time reading. ;)

message 19: by Lynn (new)

Lynn Mod
Sarah - There are pros and cons for both sides.

People like to see the results for exactly the reason you've said. People don't like to see the vote because they see it as a pure vote, everyone is voting for exactly what they want rather than being swayed for what has already happened.

We are just mixing it up; some months we will have a theme, some months we won't. Some months you will be able to see the vote, so months you won't.

message 20: by Lynn (new)

Lynn Mod
BTW - I have to say that after the first day, I can confirm it does make a difference to how the voting is going.

message 21: by Alycia (new)

Alycia I like the idea of not seeing it. Like you said, Lynn, it's more of a pure vote. :)

I bet you are! Lol! I would be posting constant teasers...."one book has no votes yet" or "the lead just changed...again!" I guess that would make me a meanie too!

message 25: by Sarah (new)

Sarah I have another group where you can see the votes and change your vote but once polls are up you cannot make comments on the votes posted and have a dialogue with everyone about the books or the votes trying to sway others or whatever. But I often like several of the books chosen not just my nomination.

I like switching it up. Then it will be a total surprise in the end. It's fun to do every once in awhile. We can always set up buddy reads if we really want to read our book and it isn't chosen. ;)

I don't get too hung up on which book wins. If I really want to read it, I'll read it anyway. I just like to watch them and cheer for mine. lol I literally give out updates at my house..."oh! my book is winning!" or "oh no! I'm down by two votes!" lol I think everyone at my house is very happy when the voting ends. hahaha

You are right though Joanne, the leader does have an e in it! lol

I'll will give you a little insight, since the poll opened we have had 4 books in the lead at different times.

message 35: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Well I just want to say the book I nominated only had 88 ratings but it averaged 4.46 that is very high and higher then all others chosen.

Sarah Also The Caliph's House A Year in Casablanca by Tahir Shah is one of my favorite reads this year. It was really refreshing to read a lighthearted book that I found quite humurous. It made me have several laughs.
