I love that I can have access to my books through Kindle not only on the actual device, but also on my laptop and my phone. It's super convenient!
iPad because we can't get Kindles in Malaysia and even if we buy one, we're not allowed to buy from Kindle shops. Amazon is not nice that way.
FWIW, if people have a Kindle Fire that's probably more like an iPad than an ereader.I love my Kindle Paperwhite.
I used the Kindle app on my ASUS Android tablet. It has the full function of a Kindle Fire HD in terms of what books it can display. Illustrations are beautiful on it.
Absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE my NookColor. But, will be updating it to a Nook HD+ soon... I hope. Can't wait. Bigger device and it's a tablet, so I can watch movies & stuff on it. WAHOO!
i prefer the Kindle, but have to say that I greatly prefer Audible.com downloads and listening over reading. Not being lazy, it's just even more enjoyable to hear the voice inflections and accents.
I'd prefer my Kindle Fire generation (2). It's made for reading, and much easier to hold when you're laying down.
BOTH! I love to read my Kindle Keyboard outdoors or while relaxing in the tub. I use my iPad mini everywhere else, like where the lighting isn't bright enough for the Kindle.
Nook Color is the best. And Barnes and Noble is always there for help. There are actually people to help you at B&N.
I have the Galaxy Tab 2 ( 7 inch ) and it's great for this sort of thing because it's not huge and unwieldy like the 10+ inch tabs. I can hold it in one hand because it's so light. It does a good approximation of an actual book. I have 17 books downloaded so far, which hasn't cost me a couple hundred dollars because most digital books are damn inexpensive. I now prefer this method because I don't end up with 100 books I'll never read again taking up space in boxes or on shelves.
I have a kindle and a kindle fire, but I much prefer reading on my kindle! I love how basic and light it is, the battery life is much better than my kindle fire and I'm grateful that my kindle doesn't have touchscreen! I use my kindle fire for internet browsing/ youtube etc x x
I use my IPad to play games and micromanage lol. But my Kindle is strictly for reading, although I do have books on my IPad as a back up.
I am in love with my Nook, especially when I'm on a stationary bike or on a threadmill. iPad is great for playing games and reading pdf articles. But for epub books I definitely prefer my nook.
I have both, one for work and the other for personal use. I prefer to read books on my Kindle. I tried to read my books on my iPad and there is nothing wrong with it, but I thought the iPad was too heavy.I like being able to carry my lightweight Kindle in my purse. The Kindle never gave my eyestrain.
I have had a stroke and can only use my right hand the kindle is light wieght enough to hold one handed and to change pages and so many free books!!!
Definitely agree with those that say that the Kindle does not strain the eyes as much. Also, with those that say that the iPad has some distracting aspects. My main reason for getting my Kindle Fire HD was for reading and an occasional movie or two. If I were to get an iPad, I'd get it for the purpose of enjoying my iTouch games on a larger screen. I tried reading from an iPad, and I must say it is pretty tiring (eye-wise).
For the first time I'm reading a book on my Samsung Galaxy Tab2 with a 10" screen. It's not bad, but is too bright and it's not good for my eyes. I prefer my Kindle 4.
I loved my Fire. My husband got me the HD for my birthday and I do not know how I got by without it.
I love my nexus 7. It is the best in all worlds. Lite weight, was great on along train ride. I has acsess to every thing needed.
Love my Kindle. With its leather cover it feels just like I am holding a book and the e-ink is easy on the eyes.
i voted ipad, because i have allll my stuff all together on one device, lol! it is a bit heavier than the others tho.
I have word processing, printing, calendars, games for the grand kids, Scott trade, magazines, newspapers, a stop watch, alarm clocks, movies. TV, radio, play downloaded music, the Web. My kindle is small and light. Camera including videos, banking, shopping. I am thinking about an iPad
Is there anything you do that I do not....
Thanks.
While the iPad gives a larger screen than my Nook (and it has color, which my nook doesn't), is that other things on the iPad distract you. When I'm reading on my Nook, that's all I do - read. That's why I prefer it.

I have and iPad 3 and a Kindle Paperwhite (plus an old Kindle 3 / Keyboard) - I really love my iPad, but when it comes to reading novels, I stick to the Kindle. Yes, the Kindle and iBooks apps are very nice, but the device is just too big and heavy for long reads in bed. Twice I've fallen asleep surfing in bed with my iPad and had it crash into my head (it even drew blood once).
I don't think you phrased this in the way that's going to be the most helpful for you here. A lot of people are saying, "I love my Kindle Fire" and - in that instance, they might as well say, "I love my iPad." It's basically the same thing.
For reading, there is no question, in my mind, that a dedicated e-reader with e-ink beats an iPad or Kindle Fire hands down.
But for all the OTHER awesome things those devices can do, they are, overall, better.
But the real question to ask people is: do you prefer reading with e-ink or on a tablet.
The problem is that tons of people don't understand the question. They don't realize that the traditional Kindle and the Kindle Fire are really apples and oranges.
I have a traditional Kindle and a Nexus 7. I will say that I take my Nexus 7 out with me more often, but for reading it's my Kindle, hands down. I wish I had one of those new ones that I have a backlight when you want it. Also the improved contrast on the newer e-readers is dope.
Kindle is my favorite reader. My iPad gets very little use. On the other hand, real books are my true favorite. No power outage, no electronic malfunction, no failure to reach the internet will keep me from my books!
I don't have either, but I'm looking to get either an ipad or nook or kindle paperwhite or any other ereader. I need help figuring out which would be best. I would like it mainly for reading while traveling, reading through magazines, and preferably an internet connection to read online articles and such. Advice?

Among the tablets: really, who cares? The differences are all marketing.
The main difference is between ereaders and tablets.
The Paperwhite will be your best choice, hands down, for reading text.
For all that other stuff, tho, you need an LED screen, which means you need a tablet. In that case, just look for which one has the best price. It really doesn't matter.
But I'd recommend that you just get the Paperwhite and do those other things on your laptop until you can get a tablet, too, after the prices on those fall even further.
